I don’t like the way Apple has tried to upsell their Safari in this manner.  It is too intruding and having no permission to ask us in this manner.  What did they do actually?  I was being alerted today that my iTunes has a new version to update.  So, I went ahead and click to update it.  It popped up a new window to show me the usual update window to carry on with the update.  It was so smooth transaction that I was already clicking down on “Install 2 items”.  That stopped me from releasing the click.  I pulled back.

My first impression was to install iTunes and QuickTime at the same time.  That makes it 2 items.  But because I was also previously been alerted to download the latest version of Quicktime when I was surfing.  So I had already installed that.

Let me tell you that I stopped myself from continuing to click on that “Install 2 items” because I don’t want to install QuickTime!

A closer look at the update, I have no choice to download iTunes only… QuickTime is a must!

An even closer look… I was about to install Safari browser which I didn’t ask for…

Now, that is about INTRUDING my computer!

Sorry that I am happy with my Mozilla Firefox 3.0 and I don’t wish to use Microsoft Internet Explorer or even Opera browser! Is Apple trying to do this to increase their market share in the web browsers world?  No doubt that I like their browser on IPhone and on IMac… But on PC, I prefer Firefox for my daily Internet dosage… Sorry, no entry over here!

In fact, this was already an issue when I checking out their wikipedia.  They have an external reference to CNet webware reporting this apple software update issue already.  At that time when CNet reports the same issue, it was even worse when Apple Software Update is showing the two items together.  Check out the CNet website for that screenshot.

If you want to upsell, please upsell!  Don’t assume!  The famous McDonald example would be “Would you like to have an apple pie with your meal?”  Apple’s such action is like mimicking a McDonald staff to say “Here’s an apple pie on top of your meal. The total cost would be $10. Ok to pay now?”
