I decided to do sales instead of starting up a new company

Working on the Internet full time on my own since June 2007, it turns out that I am having more and more time to enjoy with my girlfriend. I like the internet lifestyle of making money. The initial phase of working out all the websites is very tedious. Even for this Charles Lau dot Com, I am spending all days and nights in the past few months, learning how to use WordPress from scratch, and asking everybody along the way what this is and what that is. But when it’s done, I have to do lots of tweaking to do testing and testing and more testing. But it comes with having more time for myself since I have to wait for the results at the end of the day.

More and More Free Time
My expenses in both business and personal have not been justifiable from my internet income. Having to see myself with more and more time, I decided to do something more to bring in cold cash outside the internet realm. Cracking that Internet code to make money online simply sucks the money as you work harder to find out how.

Salesman sells better than Salescopy
I had a good chat with Carl about the meaning of making money online. I concluded that in the short term, doing face-to-face sales is so much easier than making money online. Face-to-face sales is all about solving the problems of your potential customers (and close the sale eventually) with you working on it physically, while making money online is all about cracking the internet money code with the website working hard on it without your presence. Cracking that code is all about getting the right formula, and that comes with lots of testing and with probably some networking too.

So what else should I do to bring in cold cash?
While working on my internet business, I thought of working on a new business with another friend, trading some products he has brought in. But as time passed, I began to realize how diversified I am getting myself into when my own internet business is not yet surfacing to become viable. I must have disappointed him when I told him I am not going to do it with him yet. Anyway, he already has a running business himself and he’s just looking into doing a part-time business where he probably needs a full-time partner to get it run properly. Moreover, this new business is going to press for more expenses on my part to invest in it too.

In fact, more and more business opportunities knock on my door as I am working on my internet business. It can be as many as 10 businesses for me to work on it and yet i only have 24 hours a day.

Taking up sales job
Instead of starting up a new business, I thought of taking up a sales job because of an advice of a good friend. Back in the past, I used to diversify a lot in doing businesses… And in the end, I cannot focus to grow all of them up.

“A good salesman might not be a good businessman.”

“But a good businessman must be a good salesman.”

Having to focus myself on doing Internet business, I wouldn’t want to diversify myself too much like in the past. I saw how a business can grow when you just focus yourself on doing it… Surrounding yourself to do this business wholeheartedly… That’s how the business will grow much better and healthier.

A business consists of multiple modules:
1) Sales
2) Operations
3) Marketing
4) Finance and Accounting
5) Business Management
6) Human Resource Management(if it gets bigger)
7) and more…

Since doing physical business myself, I think the single most important module is still “sales”. I wouldn’t want to re-invent the wheel and do everything myself. I would rather add value to any company that I wish to work in, and probably make myself a valuable player while happily doing my Internet business… :)

Why Sales Job?
It is probably easier for me to do sales than to do operations for a company. I used to do sales to bring my company up from scratch. Now, I will do the same to bring sales to any company which appreciates me. Spending some time to go out to do some networking, talking to customers… I am kinda been shut by the internet nature of typing my feelings in words… The only time is to do video reviews where I can get to talk more to the laptop (and not a real customer).

Why Sales Engineering?
I have been in the discipline study of IT in from 1997 to 2001… I just wish to do sales related to IT to keep myself updated and to socialize myself around while doing Internet stuff. It’s all related anyway.

Conclusion
This world revolves around businesses and jobs basically. But, the actual thing that bounds both of them is sales. Whether it is involving businesses or jobs, we all have to do sales to keep the whole business system healthy. We are all talking about leveraging. Leveraging on you, leveraging on me, we are all doing our part actually… Just do your part and leverage everything else away…
