4284017263 5722d251d3 I dont understand why people are paying money to attend social media 101 course...

I don’t know yet myself… I may even attend one myself sooner or later… Or I may even get a chance to speak on the stage myself… But this question just pops up my head when I wonder why people are paying money to attend social media course…

First of all, do you really need to pay other people to start a Facebook account yourself?

For those people who just don’t want to get themselves exposed in social media, I really wonder how they want to understand social media by attending a theory course… Even if it’s a practical course for themselves, it’s only 1 to 2 days of course that they will get exposed… If they don’t like to have fun in Facebook, in Twitter, in FriendFeed, in Google Buzz, in Posterous, in Blip.fm or even to start a blog themselves, I wonder how they want to do social media marketing…

And for those people who have been enjoying in the social media, can you guys please wake up?  You already know what social media is… When you update that Facebook status of yours, the amount of comments you get are your audience already!  You already know how to attract people to join you in your community of fun!

The Internet is a great media for all of us to share and grow together.  It has taught me that there is no such thing as the right standard to follow.  I read other people’s blogs to understand their thoughts.  I learn from these blogs and build my own standard.  In fact, it is actually opening up my horizon of understanding the topics that I am interested in.  Even if you start by following famous marketing blogs from people like Chris Brogan and Seth Godin, it’s absolutely fine!  In fact, I thought only the famous bloggers are worthy to follow… I realize that there are a lot of great thoughts out there as well to learn from the not-so-famous bloggers.

In fact, learning is always a journey… I never knew what’s in store for me when I follow TechCrunch closely on what they have been writing about… I never knew I actually enjoy Cranky Geeks when they discuss about things from the ground level point of view… Social media is so personal that companies are afraid to be exposed because they have been hiding behind their big brands for decades of years!

So what’s the real reason to attend a social media course?

I’m not sure… But I think these people are just going there to justify to themselves that social media is here to stay!  And it’s going to be hard to go!  I think it’s the wrong forum because that’s where they are trying to convince your justification…

Well guys, it’s just a thought… I may attend it sooner or later. :)

  • Our site boasts the world's only web based telestrator that allows coaches and players to analyze video clips of athletes in motion. The base version if free but the dual screen and extended play versions are $99/year and coaches are buying.
  • I think other people attend social media because they want to learn more about it..
and they want to explore social media.
  • Many years ago, the internet was not that popular. Not a lot of people are into computers and gadgets because it was only used by big companies and wealthy people back then.
  • I came across a great resource of interest to anyone considering nonprofit careers. I'm posting the info below. So that this is actually a question and not just a shameless plug for a conference about which I am very excited, let me ask this question: if you were to start or join a nonprofit organization, what would it be organized to accomplish.
  • I'll be training other Real Estate agents soon in Social Media. I am a bit of a novice, still, yet will likely have an outline. I am willing to share. Wondering however if kami will be joining the Wiki, or is she keeping the info close to the vest.
  • That's exactly what I mean! Nobody in this world is considered an expert actually... But it's good that you share your experience..

I think people attend such courses in order to enculcate awareness to them about social media, for them to understand the scope and limitations of it, its privacy issues, whether its feasible or not, because the personal information of users are at stake and at risk when they join in a social media
  • But come to think of it... Without going for such courses, will you join if your friends are already in it and asking you to join them?
  • It would be also serve as an emergency manual when you have to make tough decisions at critical junctures. Much better than develop strategies ad hoc, as the need arises. Sure, you can jot your ideas down on a napkin over lunch and run with it.
  • Sorry?
  • Typical of free idea sources is word-jobber.blogspot.com. While this site limits itself to direct marketing, it's pretty shrewd. Best of all: there's a new idea every Monday, just in time for a long week.
  • Sorry, I don't get what you are trying to say with regards to this post.
