Just Do Your Job Properly

Meeting objectives

I think the whole idea of being in a career is to meet your objective, as well as meeting your customers’ objectives.

There are many people out there who are only trying their best to meet their own objectives so much so that they are not meeting their customers’ objectives.  Taking in a lot of business is definitely part of your objective as you want to make more money.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with that idea.  You want to be rich, you have every right to be rich because it’s your own business.  But when you are unable to handle your customers’ objectives who trusted you to do a good job, I just see that there is no point no matter how much you are trying to convince your customer.

Vendor environment

Since 2003 till 2007, I have been in the vendor environment always… I have been striving very hard to give my customers only the best.  And when it comes to multiple customers, it has a lot to do with the management of the customers with my colleagues, and to work out the best timing for my customers.  In the vendor world, there is no such thing as no time…. You have to spare some time out to talk to your customers who are eager to speak to you.

Client environment

Today, I am in the client environment for almost 2 years now.  I find that being a client is not easy as well.  I am trying very hard to get my vendor to produce everything that I need.  And it seems like there are some vendors who simply don’t deliver things properly.  It makes me think that they are not really a solution provider; they are just someone whom I need manpower only where they are just doing their usual programming, designing and building contents.

Do your job properly!

I think the whole idea is that we just need to do our job properly.  A project manager has an overview of the whole “earth”, where he is able to plot out the correct direction for all of us to walk through from “country” to “country”.  The sub-project manager will handle the smaller routes within the country so that we can cross accordingly.  All the rest of us will just need to take care of ourselves in making sure that we are following the route properly and to prevent any accidental damages.

Prevention is better than cure

I hate to see vendors who only know how to make a fast move first, and cure later.  While they can promise so many things, they better deliver them one by one.  By over-promising and under-delivering, it not only saddens any customer I do believe anybody will not be happy anyway.

Some vendors will just hit first, and cure later.  At the stage of curing after incidents, I really don’t like the idea of not being transparent and trying to cover the fire.  I will rather let it open up and see what I can get out of it.  Whatever it is, just get it over because we got better things to work on and become a better company of ours!

Being solution-oriented

There are a couple of times when I see projects failing, and I have to keep my faith and making it work.  If all else fails, I still have God in me.  Just try very hard to work out a solution and to face the whole situation gracefully.  It feels really good to see light after a long walk in the cold dark tunnel…

In other words…

Just do your job properly!
