Let’s Talk About Search Engine Marketing

Search engine optimization is probably an important factor in every starting phase of a entrepreneur. While you might have started your business online, the traffic wouldn’t know unless you are well-connected with the Internet world in one way or another. If you are quite well-known in the Internet world, your every new website started would be taken noticed of by other websites to give you a link to introduce you to the outside world. In this case, it is not so necessary to take advantage of the search engines to give you a hand.

10 ways of a website to be noticed

  1. First time visitors found you through the search engines.
  2. First time visitors found you through other websites’ links.
  3. First time visitors found you through email subscription from other websites.
  4. First time visitors found you from the word of mouth of their friends and acquaintances.
  5. First time visitors found you through a popular ebook’s recommendation which is spread rapidly.
  6. First time visitors found you through the physical book’s recommendation as well.
  7. First time visitors found you through the nature of your website, such as providing email accounts which contain your domain name.
  8. First time visitors found you through the various kinds of advertisements you have made.
  9. First time visitors found you through the popular usage of your website, such as forums and social networking.
  10. First time visitors found you through the popular social bookmarking from other visitors.

If you have noticed, the one which provide the most beneficial investment is still with the search engines. That’s because they provide a more consistent flow of traffic into your website. Many others may either require your website to have some sophisticated service such as providing a software download, or in a form of recommendation. The best form of recommendation is with social bookmarking. And social bookmarking seems to have caused many sites to experience a “shake” to their server workload with massive visits from all around the world. The traffic flow may die down later with no consistency. It’s definitely a good way of capturing the market while you can… But search engines refer visitors which are more diversified from different market sectors, allowing you to capture new potential market.

There seems to have a difference between search engine optimization and search engine marketing. Where search engine marketing usually means to pay for every search. According to Wikipedia, search engine marketing can mean both paid traffic as well as free traffic. And search engine optimization is just part of search engine marketing technique.

Having your site to be listed on the search engine is one of the most exciting thing to happen. It means that we are going to have lots of traffic from the search engines while we are still working on our websites. A site must have consistent graph of NEW visitors against time. Everyday, we are all looking forward to set a goal of attracting how many new visitors per day. It is so much more “scarier” than TV advertisements or some other forms such as brochure distributions. That’s the fun part about internet in every online business.

Paid search engine marketing can mean about Pay-Per-Click (PPC) or Click-Per-Thousand (CPM), where you pay a small amount of money for every click in PPC, or for every 1000 impressions. This is pretty much straightforward to pay search engine with. And I will only recommend Google as a start and to use it as part of our internet advertisement.

Free search engine marketing can also be done, but it’s not really free… It’s being paid with our own time and effort to make everything work properly together. We have to take care of search engine optimization. And search engine optimization means to bring to do lots of work to get natural links to our site either through an exchange of cash, mutual links or just having really good contents for others to recommend our sites. It is especially hard for non-blog websites where they are trying or just hopping for people to link them for free…
In my opinion, linking is not really as important as having our own heavy-weight contents in the website. I have reviewed one site which don’t really have any inward links, but his site is monstrous with contents! Quality content is somehow measured by the number of keywords you used in your website… But of course, it can be manually removed eventually for meaningless contents for human beings to browse.

I have heard a lot of internet marketing experts saying that they have been trying to do search engine optimizations, and in the end they gave up and just focus on their contents. Actually, I think they knew what they were doing… They are already saying that they are focusing on their contents. And that’s what optimization is all about in the first place. Of course, you can increase your optimization by writing for others in their websites and then linking back to you to increase your linkbacks. However, contents is ultimately the most important basics of all.
