Mail Integration From Google

Yesterday, The Google Apps group announced the addition of mail migration capabilities.

So now, users can migrate existing email data from an IMAP server into their Gmail accounts on Google Aps. Gmail can then organize the messages into conversation threads, and display the original sender, recipient, and date of messages; and convert existing mail folders into labels.

Probably the most obvious thing is that the old messages are now searchable! Simply leverage on the Google powered search capabilities built into Gmail. This could be a big feature for companies with huge archived email data that is very hard to access.

Actually, back in 1999 when I was still studying computer networking, IMAP seems to have phased out already… If Google were to do such a mail integration, it actually means it’s supporting those really old information… I believe the beneficiaries are probably the Government-linked companies, banks, and the long-history of MNC companies…
