Thanks Google for the invitation of Google Buzz when I log into my Gmail account. It is a phenomenon thing that Google has done! It is going to be the next social media that everybody will look into… And very soon, I have a feeling that Facebook is going to be out of business… It reminds me of how ICQ was almost immediately swiped out by MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger when almost every single friend of mine is converted overnight!
What Google Buzz is about?
I may not be hundred percent sure what I am going to review because this is my first time trying out Google Buzz. My first impression of Google Buzz is that it looks like Twitter… It also looks like FriendFeed… It also looks like Facebook… And my first impression that that Google has helped me to arrange who I should be following already! And they are very accurate… People like Robert Scoble, Chris Brogan and Darren Rowse are in!
This is how it looks like for me to write my tweet post!
Google Buzz allows me to “like” a post! Google also allows me to “comment on the post”! This reminds me of Facebook when I click on “Like” when my friends have written something interesting.
Google Buzz allows me to write more than 140 characters! I think this will expand more possibilities… I have always been challenged to squeeze within 140 characters on twitter…. (Especially when I am retweet a lot!)
Google allows me to add a link with an intro of that website! (It looks like Facebook status update…) I can choose a few pictures to include in my post… But I have a big problem here… It doesn’t show my Internet Review banner!
You can also add a picture!
You can also do a few more things after your post… You can email it… You can link to this post.. You can mute it… You can still edit it… Or if you don’t like it, you can still delete it!
Last thoughts about my impression
Lastly, I just wonder if it allows me to spread my tweets and other aggregates to this Google Buzz… I still don’t know yet… But I believe this will happen very soon. It’s important for me because I have been an avid user of twitter for quite a few years already… It’s not easy for me to manage all of them if I can’t have them aggregated.
What is the impact of Google Buzz going to be on their competitors and their competitors’ users?
It seems to me that the FriendFeed and Twitter will be the most affected ones since they are almost the same as Google Buzz. But again, Facebook seems to be next to be affected too even though they have other focuses in their website. Google has a very good history of privacy while Facebook has been facing a lot of privacy issues… Having Google to participate in the social media, it seems like there may be a shuffle in the next two years… And I think the most poor thing will be the users in Asia (especially Singapore) because most of the companies are just being copycats, copying the rest to create their own Facebook pages… Will Facebook be affected in the next two years? What does that mean to the companies who may need to “move house”? By the way, it is a poor decision for any company to rely 100% on the social media… I have seen a couple of social media websites coming in and out… It’s almost that instant in both entrance and exit of the social media business!
