Why Asia Is Still Not Ready In Internet media?

by Charles on 21 July 2009

Although more and more people in Asia are jumping onto the Internet wagon to market their products and services, there is still a lack of experience and knowledge in knowing how they can do it.

First of all, the web agencies are not ready to serve the Asian businesses. Everybody is just trying for the very first time. In fact, they depend a lot on the Y-Gen’s experience to help them make the deals. This is nothing new in the US and UK as well. But i would say that i have found a few really good web agencies’ employees in US and UK are doing pretty well personally in the social media.

Secondly, the market is not really there actually. Unless your target market is more towards the X and Y generation, it’s pretty hard to market to the baby boom generation. But the Internet market cannot really be underestimated because of the increasing usage from the social media influence.

Thirdly, the business nature is still towards the usual retail style. People are doing cold calling because they still think that it’s still a number game after all. Internet is just a very small strategy which is part of the whole picture. The big strategy is still with their retail business. In fact, they think that they are not in the same business like Google or AsiaOne.

Well, if Google or AsiaOne can survive on just through Internet means, it does really mean something to other non-internet businesses. It’s just about how much involvement we want to take on the internet. It can mean a real dedication of an internet team! It really depends on how much we want to serve the Internet, and not how we can reap profits from it because Internet is best at pre-selling and building brand awareness.
