I have been using Genesis WordPress theme for a pretty long time now. Previously, I used Thesis WordPress theme as well. Both are great in their own ways. While there are some design technical differences, I personally think that it doesn’t really matter so long as it fulfills the end users’ needs.
There are however some differences for sure. And the main one is that Thesis is very customizable while Genesis is very theme-based. When I first used Thesis, I told myself that this is the one I need as it is highly customizable. But when I used Genesis, I found that it is better for me to use the Genesis’s child templates instead because I don’t have to reinvent the wheel when I can just customize the preset child themes.
The thing about Genesis is that it is only a framework. And many WordPress designers have really good designs but they are not good at making the backend. Let’s face the fact that designers are not good developers, and vice versa.
That explains why I have been using Genesis and never looked back. It helped me to design some of the websites for my friends with ease…
