We seem to be living in an environment where making mistake is a “crime”. If you make a mistake, you will tend to be “punished” in one way or another. We are differentiated from our different scores in schools which somehow determine our position. If you score high in school, you will be rewarded. And if you fail, you will probably be barred from studying on those certain subjects. Though such education system is possibly common worldwide, Singapore is a place which holds education more than anything since human is our only natural resource in Singapore.
Copycats
In the end, we will start to see copycats in Singapore. There are exceptionally more copycats in the working world because of the fear of being looked down. For the pride’s sake, a person will just copy other people’s work to have a “look good” feel. We have to break through this problem… That’s because we tend to be lagged behind in the trend from other countries. We tend to copy what other countries are doing, and make it our own in Singapore. Singapore’s creativity is probably quite limited.
Is this Singapore Style of Doing Business?
When I see one shop doing exceptionally well, I will start to see some shops popping up doing the same thing exactly! I am not sure if this is the same with other countries. But re-inventing the wheels may not be Singaporeans’ cup of tea. They like to work on what’s working for them, rather than to rack their brain for a new idea. On the surface, they may say that they want to work on fresh ideas only… However, that’s probably what 20% are doing, and the remaining 80% are just copying them.
When one sells bubble tea, all sells bubble tea.
When one sells roti bun, all sells all sorts of variants of the roti bun.
When one sells katong laksa, there are so many katong laksa everywhere.
When I started a certain temporary business for fun, I start to see copycats coming up.
Can such a person succeed online?
Even for my video review (which I don’t find it fresh anymore), I start to see Alex doing exactly the same video review like myself in his OnlineMarketingSingapore.com. Just take a look at his video review over here. Just by listening to his video review, I realize I really need to brush up my ascent to be more internationally recognized… Moreover, I don’t understand why Camtasia is loading so long… Is that what the Camtasia can do for us? I believe Camtasia is a much better software since it costs a few hundred dollars more than my HyperCam software… I think everybody has the opportunity to do video reviews on blogs.
Moreover, in my opinion, I guess somebody (I didn’t say who he is…) will have a hard time getting some page ranking because many articles he had blogged have multiple duplications everywhere in Google indexes. This not only shortcuts his learning curve, he wouldn’t be able to learn as much as other bloggers who wrote their own contents from their own thoughts. Google don’t like duplicated articles… “Good luck to your blog! Mr A!”
Blog contents differ from article websites
Blogging is a way of expressing one person’s thought… It depicts upon aristocracy when it comes to term with blogging in his own world. Democracy might not work in blogging since it can only contain feedbacks in comments which can be deleted at the hands of the aristocrat. And that is why every blog content is unique by itself no matter how you see it. When one big news happens, many bloggers will have different point of views about that same topic. That’s what blog is all about in the first place.
Thank God that we have Singapore government taking steps to increase the creativity right from the young ages… I hope it helps to change now…
