• Who is Charles?

I have been an Internet reviewer, reviewing websites since June 2007.

Social media has been a phenomenon since 2007. It brings in the true two-way communication between the websites and their visitors. That's what Web 2.0 is all about. I aim to review what the world has become, and to give you my opinions and choices.

  • Want to be reviewed?

Over at my blog, I review you at no cost. But I will not be obliged to write reviews about your website, nor will I be obliged to write reviews positively. It is purely from my own point of view. There will have no deadline for me to finish any reviews if I am going to take up.

Please prepare your product ready for me before contacting me. Thanks. :)

Charles Lau dot Com Is Growing Up!

By Charles On October 1, 2007 Under Charles Ramblings

Charles Lau dot Com is coming into his fifth month of blogging. New things to learn, new things to implement, and new changes to be made. I have changed quite a couple of things along the way for this blog. I am quite pleased with the growth of this blog. It has made me see how traffic is growing over the months. And with the experience I had gone through in my physical business, I put in every effort to make sure this blog is going into a new level…

Doing Video Review of Your Blog
Along the way, you must have been seeing changes in this blog. I started to make this blog more focused on something. I have just standardised a price of $10 for reviewing blogs. It is probably the most affordable review with over-delivering contents. Check out my reasons of offering video reviews for only $10. Do let me know of your interest by contacting me at this contact form.

Header Image for My Blog
I am currently in the midst of changing my cheesy smile header image into a Web 2.0 look for header image. I used the same logo designer as Kumiko to design my header image. I have seen the preview of it, and it looks quite pleasing to me, and I am now waiting for that person to compile and email to me to upload it soon. Remember Kumiko commented about “what’s up with that cheesy smile, crossed arms, and disgustingly cheap PhotoShop job that he calls a top banner?” in CashQuests review of Charles Lau dot Com. I have two more bloggers giving me comments about my banner along the way which makes me think it’s really time to make some changes.

My Blog Title Has Changed
My blog title used to be “Marketing Your Business Online With Charles Lau dot Com“. I even had a good traffic for the keyword “online marketing”. However, it doesn’t do good for this blog as the focus is quite confused. While the title is related to “Marketing Your Business Online”, I have been working more towards reviewing other people’s blog. And I can feel myself getting better in reviewing blogs over the months! I do have overwhelming posts under “Online Marketing” category. However, I do see that the number of “Make-Money-Online” blogs are increasing at the speed of light! In my 4 months, I keep seeing new blogs writing about this topic. I even had a review of another Make-Money-Online blog with TheGeekBoys.com which is just 9 days old when I get my hands started in the operation of video reviewing their blog! I would like to thank TheGeekBoys for the 10 bucks! Here’s a love link for you for your Make Money Online blog.

Hence, I changed my title to “Reviewing Your Websites, Software and Books With Charles Lau dot Com”. While the focus right now is reviewing blogs, I am hopping to be an online reviewer reviewing more than just blogs. Which makes me think if I should title my blog as “Reviewing Your Blogs With Charles Lau dot Com”… I am still considering…

Added A Sidebar Widget, Showing A Record of All Websites Reviewed
I have been thinking… It would be good to show the websites which I have reviewed so far… Some bloggers who stumbled upon my blog, didn’t realize this focus (video review) which I am working on. It’s until I was reviewed by CashQuests, and I got quite a couple of people asking for video reviews. That’s when the bloggers – who already frequented my blog – started to know the niche of this blog.

Have you noticed featured information at bottom of this blog?
I have finally got people who is interested in advertising in this blog… I am so happy to get to know interested advertisers… I have even rejected a few advertisers whom I know I can’t cater… You guys know who you are… In fact, I almost rejected this guy who advertised at the bottom of this blog. I always like to create a win-win situation! If I can’t win, I am sorry to reject you… And if you can’t win, I wouldn’t want it either! :) Why would I want your money when you can’t get what you want?

Is BlogRush working?
Well, I installed it myself… It looks like it is bringing in some traffic, I think it might be a good idea anyway. However, so far, I don’t see any usefullness out of it. But it gives me a sense of belonging to the blogosphere since the founder seems to convince more and more blogs to install it… It doesn’t really look ugly anyway, right?

Traffic is growing bit by bit
I think it is an achievement to see Darren Rowse commenting on my blog. He really does what he preaches in his blog! I have been learning from him in his problogger.net blog since June 2007… And my blog has been growing up from zero traffic… What I can say is that contents do bring in natural traffic from search engines. I blog on this site, talking to nobody… Until I finally see some comments along the way… Seeing the more prominent bloggers giving some time to comment, it always excites me every time! :)

Pat myself on the shoulder for some achievements
Being mentioned in other people’s blog is also another achievement I am proud of myself. I had the opportunity to do guest-blogging, being link-loved by the various big players along the way who noticed me, and being in touch with some of the bloggers around the world. And the most fun part is to do a review of different kinds of bloggers around the world! I learn so much about other bloggers’ experience, which allow me to share with one another what we have learned along the way.

Starting Blogging Business as a Lone Ranger
Did you know that I started this blogging business all by myself? I was known to be a lone ranger at the initial stage. I got to know different bloggers along the way… And my focus of blogging has always been on the world, not Singapore. Hence, my traffic is mostly from United States, United Kingdom and other countries. I don’t have much Singapore traffic actually… But I am glad to know some Singaporean bloggers along the way! :) I have never expected to see any actually…

Conclusion
“What you focus on, expands.” – This has been my greatest lesson learned from my past 4 business years… I have decided to become an info-preneur since June 2007 when I finally gave up on doing physical business which always seem to have partnership problems along the way. The greatest problem I have faced so far is partnership problem which I have been trying to solve in my new venture. It is not easy to find a right partner. However, it is allowing me to learn great lessons… Lessons which can so painful along the way, and yet it has become numb to me. Just imagine giving up a business which you have been working on for quite some time… I am glad to see some results from Charles Lau dot Com.

“Love what you sell” – This is yet another thing I have learned the tough way. And I really love blogging here! It’s fun to socialize around, writing articles and learning from your blog. Blog comes from the word “Web Log”, which means it has a log of something on the web… And that’s the lessons we have learned which are represented by blogs here, there, everywhere!

Yup, I must work really hard! Blogging is like a fishing hobby… Working hard and having the patience to work it out while we are not 100% sure where the fishes are…
