How To Do Business In the Microsoft Way?
Apr 9th, 2008 by Charles
I remember when I was using DOS, it is probably the most stable operating system I had used. Then, it comes with Windows 95 and this operating system took the world by storm to become the most popular operating system. Indeed, it is popular. But I could still vividly remember how slow this operating system is. Opening a program can “hang” the whole operating system to make us wait. And if the wait is good, we will get to use the program that we have opened. And if the wait is bad, we will just wait there forever and never knew our next step with this Windows 95.
It has brought to my attention about how similar Windows 95 and Windows Vista when Microsoft seems to be launching their products without a real quality control. The mentality seems to be “just market it out, and we’ll talk about it later”. Microsoft is very good at marketing indeed.
Then it came Windows 98. I found it to be very stable and can do most of the things efficiently. It has given me hope for using Windows operating system once again (since we have no choice because of the dominance actually).
Then it came Windows ME. It is encountering a lot of problems and it just faded away quietly while many are still using Windows 98 back then.
In between, we also have Windows NT and Windows 2000. But anyway, they are not widely used in the consumer market. I only used them at school for educational purpose. Not too bad to use actually.
Finally, the wait is over when Windows XP is launched. It has many fanciful features, and this operating system is very stable. It gives us us confidence using a computer with Windows XP. And by the way, Microsoft has already made lots of money already while the products used to be bad…
But who knows? Windows Vista is born. What’s the reason for launching this operating system with lousier quality than Windows XP? Probably, the money to be made from Windows XP is coming to a halt… New things must keep coming in to keep the company survive… And they seem to be launching this operating system in a haste… And the worst thing is to get all the major vendors to “recommend Windows Vista”… Or the vendors really wanted to recommend Windows Vista? Only the insiders know…
I am not trying to ask anybody to do business the same way as Microsoft. It is nevertheless the magnified version of how a business should be done. Don’t wait till your product is very stable while all your capital startup funds are used up in the research and development. Focus more towards the sales and marketing of your business. If your product is still not really suitable for the market, why not resell other people’s products which are suitable currently?
