You cannot use the things you learnt from brick-and-mortar (b&m) to apply in the Internet. Well, if you have been learning internet marketing, you might then be able to twist b&m marketing around to fit the internet marketing. But never to apply internet marketing “in wholesale” like how you did for your b&m business.

Don’t Do This In Internet Business

  1. Don’t ever try to send mass email to everybody whether you know or not. Though it works in b&m for sending a personal brochure to the home, it doesn’t work here.
  2. Don’t ever try to think of free advertising everywhere you go… (MSN, Forum, Blog Comments, MySpace, etc) You can only do it within your own area of circumference, meaning to do it in your own profile, your own website. And if you want advertise, Google Adwords might be a better choice.
  3. Don’t try to blow everything up really fast! The faster you blow, the faster it might be destroyed if you have no experience in doing Internet business…

Think of Internet Business as a way of expressing yourself. Think of it from a media’s point of view. You are working as a reporter for the public to see. Every word that you published will become known to the world almost instantly!

Think of the Internet strength as a flow
If you are looking for a long term business, go slow with your progress and build it up with confidence that it will go very far. You have to believe that your website is going to make you a living! Go strong with the traffic flow from the search engines and community websites. Effective with websites that build on numbers… Such as blogs, forums, social websites, article websites and dating websites.

If you are looking for a short term business, go fast with your progress! Go strong with Google AdWords for instant results for your site. Effective with websites that joined affiliate programs, having a one-product sales page, and informing the world of an oncoming event which you need fast response.

Going with the flow
You are looking forward to start a new Internet business… You got into problem with too little traffic even though you got great contents. And later, you gave up saying the Internet Business can’t be done… Is this a common problem?

Many times, there are many people who thought they could strike rich quick with the Internet. However, they realize how slow their progress is with the traffic… But they didn’t realize that they are forcing a growth of their website which is not matured enough to cater to the public… A website needs constant tuning and amendments to fit the puzzle from the traffic… While you are still small, you should be looking at the optimization of your website instead of traffic… A website needs time to grow… As your website gets its 1st year old, you will slowly build up your traffic too without having to force anything…

Of course, if you are creative enough, a growth might take only 1 month to be like a 1-year-old websites… You must take extra precautions in how you tune your site and making sure it is fully optimized!

Flow too fast or too slow?
I made a mistake with my blog by posting too many while the traffic is still slow. As such, the traffic tend to think that this site is full of new contents coming in really fast. And that really makes me a “slave” to the website… I don’t really mind doing that as I enjoy doing it very much and because I am a full-time Internet entrepreneur. However, this is definitely not feasible as a business to produce consistently all day round and no rest… And by the way, I just found a girlfriend.. (so happy *grin*) that makes me even more cautious of time management between Internet and girlfriend… It’s never an easy thing to work with.. But it’s definitely a dream of having both love and career at the end of the day for any one of us…
