Probably when Google first started marketing its Google toolbar, the very big selling point is the identification of a site’s page rank.  Since then, a lot of people have been downloading Google toolbar to check the page rank of different websites.  But what is the true purpose of a page rank then?  Does that mean that a low-page-ranked blog like mine deserves no place like a high-page-ranked blog?  But in actual fact, I do get good traffic from Google which sometimes rank me higher for certain keywords and the ones below might actually have some page ranks!

I am writing this post with regards to the ongoing group chatting about our thoughts about page ranking.

Selling Point
Page Rank has become a selling point in the website market where they will tend to sell at higher price because of a better page rank.  Higher page rank, should mean being linked by many websites out there.  With that kind of attention from other websites, this high-page-ranked website should receive traffic from all those websites as well as the search engines for a better search result position I suppose…

The True Meaning
Many people can explain the meaning of page rank here and there.  But it seems like nobody will ever know how to get a higher page rank other than having many websites pointing at your site (and probably with the same keywords as well.)

Is Page Rank Really Important To Be Known?
Yes, page rank seems to have helped in a better search results in today’s Internet.  But come to think about it, it looks like there is no real reason to publicize how high our page rank is except to sell our domain names… To show off… Or to let the whole world know how high our page rank is…

So What Does The Page Rank Number Mean?
Well, I was just having this thought when I thought of all the efforts John Chow has done to his blog… I think the meaning of page rank might not actually mean a better search result position when he is stripped of being searchable with his own name while he still retains his page rank.  Does that mean he still holds the power when linking somebody?

Conclusion
This is just a random thought I had when I was surfing John Chow’s website and the Google Forum…

I don’t think PageRank is important for what it claims to do. However it is a quick way for users to judge how “important” your blog/site is. For example, I would more readily trust something I read on a site with PageRank 8 than I would on a site with PageRank 1.

I think your blog should get a nice bump in the upcoming update ;)
