Everybody has been talking about search engine optimization. I have not really heard about website optimization myself. In fact, we have all been doing it unknowingly by focusing on building our landing pages. In my opinion, working on website optimization is the main priority. In fact, when you have done a good website optimization, you should have done some search engine optimization in your website as well.

In fact, I was quite confused over the terms between search engine optimization and website optimization. Website Optimization was first heard only from Google Analytics Team about website optimization. Google is now so focused about website optimization that they have started a new blog called Website Optimizer. Actually, I am glad to see Google’s direction about website optimization. They have become the world’s leading internet giant that they have a good say in how a website is supposed to be like. It may sometimes be the life and death of a website according to Google search engine. When you have optimized your site properly for the search engine, you would probably get a very good amount of visitors who might be interested in you. However, the bounce rate of the website can be daunting if you are too focused on search-engine optimization. The search engine don’t see the same point of view from the visitors…

Ever since the dominance of Google, every page of your website now really matters. When a person is searching for a certain keyword, he might be led to a certain page inside your website. And it is really up to your landing page’s conversion rate to bring a potential visitor down the sales funnel. We have all been so obsessed with the idea of search engine optimization back in the past. It’s time we should talk more about landing pages from the Google’s point of view. Google might not be the best mentor in this area, but it still matters to them very much since they are providing an exit from Google to your website and they really want to bring in the best for their traffic. It is the win-win situation if we all can focus on improving ourselves in this internet industry.

Internet industry is not as matured as 50 years after all. In fact, I don’t think blogging was famous and increasing tremendously in as early as 10 years ago. But it grows very quickly because the consumers now have a better way to voice out their opinions. Hence, there is no absolute direction that anybody can really study and make it work for them immediately. Well, in fact, a website is as good as a business which is so flexible and unpredictable. What works for you, might not do the same for another person. However, we can always have successful case studies to learn from the older generations of internet marketers. In fact, it’s not easy for the older generations (which is actually only 2 years old…) to catch up with the new generations today. Things are moving so fast, we have to keep up with the trend of Web 2.0 and the upcoming Web 3.0. Sales letter may not be as effective as a blog which speaks for itself frequently and to sell a book as part of its sales funnel. Visitors may no longer take the words of a sales letter for its internal testimonials as we can see live reviews from blogs and forums. And with the upcoming twitter, facebook and many social networking websites, we have to keep on improving our products and services, as well as our websites…

Website optimization is not just about beautiful websites. It has to do with the kind of contents that you have which attract people to keep on reading. Useful contents are the main priority and they can come in different types of media such as just words, videos, audios and even in documents and ebooks.

Many web design companies have been ignoring about website optimization and focused on just the website which satisfy their customers. I must admit that they are doing great in their graphics. They are just working on making their advertisers happy, without caring about the readers. If I were to ask the advertisers to request for the traffic report, these website owners are going to be in trouble…

However it is, I think I have a new topic to learn now as an Internet reviewer. I think the Internet has really got a lot of interesting things to learn and to make them profitable. :)
