• Who is Charles?

I have been an Internet reviewer, reviewing websites since June 2007.

Social media has been a phenomenon since 2007. It brings in the true two-way communication between the websites and their visitors. That's what Web 2.0 is all about. I aim to review what the world has become, and to give you my opinions and choices.

  • Want to be reviewed?

Over at my blog, I review you at no cost. But I will not be obliged to write reviews about your website, nor will I be obliged to write reviews positively. It is purely from my own point of view. There will have no deadline for me to finish any reviews if I am going to take up.

Please prepare your product ready for me before contacting me. Thanks. :)

Probably The Most Hilarious “Review Me” Ever!

By Charles On August 19, 2007 Under Latest Trends

Beware! This post contains a lot of links to many blogs because of the effect of John Chow on the most hilarious review coming up here!

Oh well… If you have been keeping in touch with John Chow’s “personal forum”, you will know what I am talking about. Yeah, I am talking about John Chow’s AndrewTalk – How Not To Do a Blog post. It received 12 diggs and 2 deli-cio-us saves… Many blogs being reviewed by John seem to be talking positively about The John Chow Effect (Desi Baba’s feedback, Sabahan’s feedback). After reading this AndrewTalk post, I start to see John Chow’s very far foresight of doing business… He is indeed a visionary legend…

From A Paid Reviewer’s Point of View
Having someone to pay $400 to you, how would you write a review for his site? Would you write it in such a way that the person being reviewed is somehow being humiliated? Would you tell the whole world (especially when you have a very popular blog) that this blog being reviewed has some stolen contents? Or even to mention the blogs that he has stolen where the affected bloggers should know by now?

Look at it another way. It is quite hard for a reviewer who sees a site with no About-Me and no author-links. Just pure Andrew. And the only sentence Andrew gave was:

This is a brand new blog about internet business. Encourage your visitors to keep visiting my blog because they will get good posts every day.

and the money $400 is handed. And if John wasn’t technical enough to do a whois, he is probably going to have an even hard time doing a review. I have something to say from the view of a Reviewer to Andrew and all potential buyers:

Can’t you see that a reviewer is trying so hard to write a good lengthy post about “you” being reviewed? While many of us have a good idea of a well-invested $400 on Mr John Chow, I seriously thought we shouldn’t just pour the money in and think everything is going to be fine… It’s not just about money… It’s about creating a branding over here and to tell the whole world why they should come back to you for more. If you still don’t get it, check out my guest post with Carl Ocab “Why Make Money Online Is Easy, Yet Many People Failed!

It is pretty much obvious to John Chow that he has nothing much to write about this guy. And furthermore, ReviewMe has no refunds! I believe John has the foresight of writing his post in this way… It is not easy for any new reviewer to see that far of writing his review in such a way probably because of an invisible fear from the public as well as the reviewed blogger.

This is the difference between a blogger (John Chow) who has been through the process of bringing his blog into a new level, and another blogger (Vinay) who just bought an already publicized Sunny’s blog where he may fumble for a while in his beginning stage to adapt to the difference of blogging experience. (By the way, I just hope Vinay will become better as time passed.)

From A $400 Payer’s Point of View
Ok, I believe Andrew must have been sold into the idea that buying a review with John Chow will definitely bring his new blog into a new level, just because of the many blogs out there who have been saying about the effects after John Chow’s review. “Yes Andrew, you are now receiving the effect!” What he didn’t realize is probably this:

  • Any new business startup (whether you are doing blog business, web business or even a physical business) will require an experienced person to bring it to the next level.
  • But it is still possible for a new-born entrepreneur to start a new business. It is by making the mistakes early enough so that he will only have his side effect in a smaller way and to learn the lessons as soon as possible and move on to do a bigger business.
  • It is always not recommended to use too much money to do a business if you are still a newbie. That’s because “With lots of money, comes Great Power! And with Great Power, comes Great Responsibility!”…
  • A lot of people tend to hype up their business by spending the money to make their shop look really good on the outside, but in fact they are not doing well in the inside. I guess, Andrew has to learn from here… Anyway, a $400 is a good investment now if Andrew knows how to switch the situation to his advantage.

When I started this blog, I long wanted to buy a reviewme from John Chow… I just thought I am not ready at all for the effect… And that’s what keeping me to work harder on my blog before I get it. You know something? His ebook came just in time when I was helpless working on my WordPress! That’s when I first stumbled upon his site in May 2007 while I was moving myself into Internet business in June looking into blogging…

After the review, Andrew started to revamp his blog and removing all the copied-and-pasted posts on his blog. He started to blog afresh and to learn right from scratch about writing for the public. He even wrote an apology post as his first post! As you guys know, I like to read the first post of a blog being reviewed by me. This post is probably the classic first post I have ever seen… Many blog’s first post is a welcoming post while his first post is “a slap from John Chow”. This “slap” is definitely too expensive for him to pay for… But like many startup’s wrong concept, it is definitely a good lesson to learn that it is wrong to think business is all about having money to make money….

Business comes with the person who is behind controlling the whole situation… Business is about solving problems especially money… Business is about providing a value worth to look at…

The Effect Of John Chow On Andrew
John Chow was in fact doing a good favor for Andrew. Believe it? If not for his outstanding post for Andrew, I wouldn’t be caught up about Andrew and to take a look at him. By now, many bloggers must be talking about Andrew also. I found one at

In the longer term, Andrew wasn’t exactly a fool like many bloggers have stated. Yes, he might have become the talk of the blog town now… But hey, isn’t that’s what every blogger’s dream to be? But of course, he has done it in a “wrong” way… But if he could take advantage of this situation and change it into another way of marketing his blog, he might turn into a powerful blogger almost instantly even though his blog wasn’t ready in the first place!

Conclusion
Remember that it is all about turning the table around, instead of just giving it up or to give in to the situation and people will just forget about it. If he can take advantage of the monstrous traffic to convert them into his readers, he is a winner now… More people are linking him like crazy… When he’s linked, there will have an after-effect of more people knowing at a later stage which may go on for about up to six months!

P/S: Did you notice that I didn’t link him in my blog? I think you can simply get his link from any of the links I have stated here! See how powerful his hilarious make-money-online blog is?? Ok, here it is… The $400 Link To The Door Of Andrew Talk… Hey I think it’s much cheaper than Google Adwords compared with a huge after-effect natural traffic!

you’re correct in that the right person could take this mistake and turn it into fortune. however i’m not convinced andrew has enough knowledge or experience to know how to do it. did you see his poll asking readers if they thought he could turn it around? amazing. it was poor judgment followed up by more poor judgment. he’d probably have better luck selling the blog.

Yes I think he is not ready… A classic example of a newbie trying to work on a heavy traffic blog…
Now, everybody should see that making money online isn’t just about owning site with good traffic… (His traffic should be highly targeted!)
Nice comment, Ms Danielle :)

Newcomer or not.. Andrew has an established amount of readers right now :) You can say whatever you like, I think he and his blog are here to stay. At least he tries to be different and doesn’t make JChow-knock-offs. Some people should follow his example and be creative, not copy-cats.

If you ask me, I’d keep the damn 1999-style blog and entitle it “How a 1999-style blog can help you make money” :D

One actual situation, but different perspectives from different people!
Medigeek is right too! It must be God’s gift for him to do it in such a different way without his knowledge!
Medigeek, that’s a good blog title to start with!
