Server-Crashed Marketing
Jul 6th, 2008 by Charles
In fact, most of the servers that I am looking at are actually shared hosting. There’s no real server maintenance they are maintaining.
There are some real reasons why the server is not working:
- Server admin is doing routine maintenance as he is informing his customers about it.
- Server resource is shared amongst a lot of hosting users. Crash is almost a norm, and it can also be due to someone’s fault in utilizing fully to do his email blast with a shared server!
- Many people kept on digging your website, causing a jam on the server!
- Lastly, yes, too many people are buying and downloading your product online right now!
I just can’t stand some marketers who are using this technique to bluff their buyers. Especially when they are not IT-trained.
By doing a server-crashed marketing, it is effectively telling people the following:
- As a customer, I will probably say “Hey friend, this product is hot! It is going to end soon. Buy now!” It makes us want to spread to our friends as we found this product useful for ourselves, and we think others will like it too. So let’s just jam the server further!
- As a prospect, “I am so eager to get this product and yet you are having technical problem! Can I just give you my PayPal account login? Just give me this product!”
- As a suspect, “Someone just told me about your product, and yet you are having server problem! Oh wow! It means you are having a great product here to grab it quick! I don’t care who you are, I think this is the live testimonial”
In other words, Server-Crashed Marketing is known as “Live Testimonials”. The server is unable to cater to the huge responses right now, and that it has been well-known that only a small percentage of buyers are giving testimonials on your sales page. You are simply telling me that you have even more “muted testimonials” here!
I hate to say but for those who are faking a server crash, please consult a technician to do a proper crash instead of being a good copywriter.
