• Who is Charles?

I have been an Internet reviewer, reviewing websites since June 2007.

Social media has been a phenomenon since 2007. It brings in the true two-way communication between the websites and their visitors. That's what Web 2.0 is all about. I aim to review what the world has become, and to give you my opinions and choices.

Website Video Review 9: www.AlvinHuang.com

By Charles On September 18, 2007 Under Websites

It is my privilege to review a fellow Singaporean blogger for the first time in this blog… And this blogger is someone who seems to be quite famous in Singapore, being nominated in the Spirit of Enterprise 2007, and also appeared in several publications in Singapore which includes “The Straits Times”, “The Business Times”, “Marketing Magazine”, and “Lian He Zaobao”. And he is none other than Alvin Huang from Kapture Consulting Pte Ltd.

Introduction
His blog is pretty unique in a sense that he focuses on brand packaging for his whole blog. In his blog, you will see a familiar banner like mine… But his banner is so much more professional and eye-catchy. The theme color for this blog seems to be black and a color similar to brownish. And when I see an overview of his blog, I can sense his strength is more towards branding a product online to sell where he is focusing on web marketing… He branded himself so much properly, and yet he seems to have a little problem catching up with his blog posts… Probably he is too busy with his current business and schoolwork, right in his mind he might be thinking “Oh, I still have to think of something to blog today…” at the very last minute.

The Spirit of an Entrepreneur
Alvin puts up an Entrepreneur’s Credo which I really like. It speaks of the good and bad times every entrepreneur has to go through… The days when everything seems to go so well, and we have to face a sudden event… Or when the days of bad income and yet we have to keep to our faith and motivate ourselves with that faith… Or even when the faith turns out to be a real negative result… All an entrepreneur has to focus on, is to keep doing and have that faith… Ups and downs is just a norm… It speaks of my previous business I was working on, where I met a new encounter in my whole entrepreneurial life… Where all my shares are bought out at zero cost… It’s just my bad foresight, and I have to move on with the faith… And I can tell you that God has been good to me!

And by the way, I would like to re-emphasize again that he is now a nominee for the Spirit Of Enterprise 2007!

List Collection
A blog is also a kind of website. He also has a squeeze page called “Free White Paper” to collect his list who are interested in what he is doing. It’s a well-done little sales copy, to convince anybody who got onto his blog to sign up to be notified about what he has to say or to offer. This offer is natural actually. Just imagine how many websites we have been surfing and forgotten about it… We probably come back again one day when it happens to be a link in the current website we have surfed… Hence, you can now imagine how to stand out from the rest by being a step more personal to your visitors who are interested in your stuff… Anyway, I believe most of us are more willing to give an email than our mobile number, right? Hence, asking for an email isn’t as difficult…

By the way, getting email addresses isn’t a difficult task. It can be retrieved almost easily through the many websites around the world… But these are largely untargeted, and they are considered to be a spam more than a welcome email… Hence, a squeeze page like Alvin’s is good to collect only from interested target visitors.

Alvin’s Resources
Alvin is also providing a list of links to many different critical internet marketing tools that many of us use… Well, I hate to say this but he is revealing simply more than he should… haha… Anyway, these resources are great to use to do market research before moving on to get into real business! We will need to know how the market is doing, and what the demand might be moving towards… That’s the beauty of Internet Marketing! That’s what any business in the world has ever dreamed to know!

Alvin’s Glossary
I think Alvin is attempting to be an Internet Marketing teacher in his blog… He even lists out A-Z about what Internet Marketing is all about… He probably wants to get the world’s attention about him online… Alvin has a neat list of definitions about Internet Marketing for any Internet business newbie to know..

Conclusion
I can say safely that Alvin is quite a seasoned player in this industry. I like his series of position marketing starting with “It’s Your Positioning Strategy, Stupid! – Part 1“. He don’t seem to write many such posts online though, but his blog is talking more towards marketing in different aspects other than just marketing articles. He seems to be promoting some charity stuff about “Blogging To Save A Child’s Heart” too.

I don’t see many Singaporeans doing along the same stuff… And looking at him, I felt like there’s someone to “accompany” me along the Internet Marketing industry. The number is definitely increasing… But not as significant when I talk about it to anybody out there… And by the way, the Classified Ad in Straits Times isn’t talking too much about such stuff… Probably just listing less than 10 ads about it…

A No-Ad Blog (Or I should say “Anti-Advertisement” blog?) for the first time I have seen… Which is pretty good at his marketing… What is this guy thinking about his marketing strategy? We’ll wait and see…
