• Who is Charles?

I have been an Internet reviewer, reviewing websites since June 2007.

Social media has been a phenomenon since 2007. It brings in the true two-way communication between the websites and their visitors. That's what Web 2.0 is all about. I aim to review what the world has become, and to give you my opinions and choices.

Over at my blog, I review you at no cost. But I will not be obliged to write reviews about your website, nor will I be obliged to write reviews positively. It is purely from my own point of view. There will have no deadline for me to finish any reviews if I am going to take up.

Please prepare your product ready for me before contacting me. Thanks. :)

Which Traffic Effect Is Better?

By Charles On July 26, 2007 Under Online Marketing

A typical website receives traffic from search engines, social communities and other websites. While attracting traffic is one story, converting them is yet another. You know that you really have a good site for conversion. However, to get more traffic for more conversion is yet the very next step I can see in many bloggers out there. They are all trying their very best to get to the next level…

In this scenario, I will talk about three pretty famous sites to create this traffic effect.

  1. Search Engine Effect: Google
It comes in natural search results, as well as pay-per-click advertisements from Google and its networks.
  2. Social Community Effect: Digg
It comes from word-of-mouth from the Internet where people will start digging for news and information when they are hot!
  3. Website Effect: John Chow
It comes from a paid ReviewMe post from JohnChow.com where he will write a detailed review about your website to introduce you to his massive traffic. He called it “The John Chow Effect“.

The Google Effect
The traffic from Google is pretty much targeted when the visitors are searching for a certain term and got onto your website to look for it. It depends largely on your control of contents in your website which will determine how your site will be able to attract targeted crowd.
Long Term
In the long term, your site will be indexed and page-ranked for more traffic to come consistently.
Short Term
You have to pay for advertising in order to be shown for traffic attraction.

The Digg Effect
Well, this traffic is more towards looking for juicy news. They are attracted where the honey is.
Long Term
You might get loyal readers in the end. These readers are probably crazy about information and might only stay subscribed in your feed for more juice, or else they will leave!
Short Term
Your site might be digg spammed and your whole server might be down for a while before you are ready for the next burst!

The John Chow Effect
As mentioned by Gaman about his payment of $400 review from John Chow, John Chow seem to be attracting a huge surge of traffic to his site for that moment of time. And as John’s post of his site goes out of the front page, the traffic goes down with it as well…
Long Term
You might see an after-effect of just a little higher traffic consistency to your site from the traffic of both John Chow’s site and his feed. And it seems like John Chow’s readers click on your AdSense more often…
Short Term
You might see a huge surge of traffic for that moment of time only, and it will come down to almost the same as your normal traffic consistency…

The Results of Traffic Effects
johnchowcomments reads Which Traffic Effect Is Better?I used to observe John Chow’s traffic who are writing comments in his blog. It seems like there are hundreds of views before there is even a few comments… As we can see, it is very clear that not many people actually interact with a website. But because of that few who do click on advertisements and write comments, these sites are more interactive and hence able to continue making money while enjoying writing for your community.

When we are unable to determine the kind of payment we made for the traffic, it can be really sad. But if you are entrepreneurial enough, you will be able to convert that into your advantage. I saw Gaman’s advertisement on John Chow dot Com to attract the rest of the traffic not yet touched at John’s blog.

Ultimately, we all want to have a healthy traffic like John Chow’s website. However, it all voices down to writing a good content website since Internet is still an information portal as a business rule of thumb…
