At least for myself, I am very sure that I can’t survive just on my mobile phone 3G plan of 12GB limit. Today, I am feeling geeky to make this blog post.
Recently, I have been busy settling down in my new house @ Punggol. During the past two to three months, I have been struggling with my 12GB mobile 3G plan for Internet access. It was really a torture because as a digital marketing guy, I need good Internet access to do my work properly. I used up my 12GB plan as well as my wife’s 12GB plan. I have to buy pre-paid card to supplement my Internet usage, with more top-ups along. It was a real torture.
Finally, I have just gotten my home broadband internet access last week. I got a new wireless router from the Internet Service Provider configured and placed in the living room. I configured my old wireless router to cover the areas where the new wireless router is unable to reach. I configured my Mac Mini Server as a media server, file server, etc. I also configured my Network Access Storage to backup all the photos and videos in my family members’ smart phone photos and videos automatically. My Smart TV is also connected to the Internet for entertainment. My amplifier is also connected to Internet for various usages such as listening to Spotify. It was fun and I thought it may not be possible to have all these set up if I didn’t have knowledge of computer networking.
I think the interesting part is on configuring the old wireless router to join the new wireless router in the same network, and using the same Wireless configuration so that the Internet user (whether it is laptop or smartphone) can have a more “seamless” access to the WiFi as he or she walks from the living room to the master bedroom. Finally found my old wireless router useful again after it has not been in use for many years!
